Muhammad Waleed's Story

Muhammad Waleed, a 5-year-old boy from Sadiqabad, struggled to hear the sounds around him since birth. As he grew older, the challenges of his hearing loss became more apparent. He struggled to communicate with others and lost touch with his surroundings. His parents were heartbroken to see their son struggle with the difficulties that came with his condition. They consulted a doctor who conducted some diagnostic tests. After evaluation, it was found that Waleed had congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and the only way to give him the ability to hear was through a cochlear implant surgery. His parents desperately wanted to help Waleed, but the financial burden of the necessary surgery was overwhelming for them.

Waleed lives in a modest three-room brick house with his seven family members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, hardly made ends meet. He works as a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 35000 monthly. Due to their financial hardships, paying for Waleed’s surgery was impossible. In this dark time, Waleed’s family heard about Transparent Hands. With hopes in their hearts, they reached out to us and asked for help. We swiftly took action.

On June 5, 2024, Waleed was admitted to the GIMS hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on June 6, 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed performed the procedure and carefully fitted the internal component of the cochlear implant and Waleed was discharged from the hospital on June 7, 2024. Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. Waleed now attends speech therapy sessions which is another milestone in his successful recovery.

Waleed’s parents expressed their emotions as follows:

“Our son’s surgery is nothing short of a miracle for us. We never imagined that he would ever be able to hear us but you turned this dream into reality. From the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful for the support you gave us.”

Waleed’s journey to recovery is ongoing and he is slowly learning to navigate the world of sounds that was once inaccessible to him. His parents are filled with hope for his future, knowing that he now has the opportunity to experience life in ways they had only dreamed of. We are incredibly grateful for your support as you enabled Muhammad Waleed to hear his loved ones’ voices.
