Zaheer Ahmed Gained the Ability to Hear
Zaheer Ahmed's Story
Zaheer Ahmed, a 1-year-old boy from Kashmore, Sindh, had been living in a silent world since birth. He was missing out on enjoying one of the cherished moments of childhood – hearing his mother’s lullabies. He never even responded to his name being called. Concerned about his condition, his parents consulted a doctor, who conducted some medical tests and diagnosed Zaheer with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). His parents were heartbroken to see him missing out on experiencing the world that other children take for granted. To open the door to the world of sounds for him, the doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery.
Living in a small mud house, Zaheer’s family was struggling to make ends meet. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 20,000 per month. His parents desperately wanted to give him the gift of hearing but their financial constraints made it impossible to do so. With hopes in their hearts, Zaheer’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help. We listened to their concerns and promptly registered their case. With the support of donors, we managed to give Zaheer the gift of hearing.
On 27th July 2024, Zaheer was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on 28th July 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed, an experienced surgeon, carefully fitted the internal component of the cochlear implant. Zaheer was discharged just one day after the surgery.
Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. His journey to the world of sounds is ongoing with regular speech therapy sessions. Zaheer’s parents were overjoyed with happiness and said:
“Zaheer is healing and learning to communicate every day. We don’t have words to describe our happiness. Your support meant a lot to us. Thank you for helping us in our darkest hours!”
Your generosity has filled Zaheer’s life with happiness and endless possibilities. His parents are happy, knowing that now their son will not be left behind to gain the opportunity to live a happy and fuller life. You have made a meaningful impact on Zaheer’s life. Thanks for being there for Zaheer!
