Amanat Ali, aged 9 years, a resident of Hyderabad was feeling pain while passing urine. He was facing severe pain in his stomach since his birth. In 2005, his parents took him to a local hospital and the doctor prescribed him some medicines. But his pain resided even after using the medication. Then his parents took him to another hospital and after evaluation, the doctors diagnosed him with hypospadias and suggested 1^st stage hypospadias repair. Hypospadias is a birth defect in boys where the opening of the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) is not located at the usual location. 1st stage Hypospadias repair is sometimes enough for hypospadias repair but in some cases, the doctor advises some follow up surgeries.

Amanat Ali’s father is a laborer and he merely earns PKR. 10,000 per month. He is the only breadwinner of the family with 4 members to feed. In these expensive times, it is very difficult for him to make ends meet with this much income. He told us:

“We are seeing our son like this since his birth. We visited numerous hospitals and took various medications but the doctors said only surgery is the proper cure. I am a poor man. I could not afford this surgery. But seeing my son like this is also very heart aching for me. Please help me to get his surgery done.”
