Ameer Hamza's Story

Ameer Hamza, aged 5, a resident of Layyah is suffering from developmental cataract affecting his right eye. A developmental cataract occurs early in childhood. Cataract is a clouding of the clear lens that eventually interferes with vision. Some signs and symptoms of cataracts include: dim, clouded or blurred vision, difficulty with vision during night, increasing sensitivity of the eye to light and glare, need for brighter light for reading and carrying out other activities, seeing “halos” around lights, double vision in affected eyes. In order to heal from ailment, Ameer Hamza has been advised to undergo Phacoemulsification of his right eye with an intraocular lens (IOL).  Phacoemulsification with an intraocular lens (IOL) is a brief surgical procedure where the cataract-affected lens inside the eye is removed, and replaced with an artificial lens in its place. As Ameer Hamza’s father is a labourer who earns PKR. 500 as daily wage, he is unable to afford the treatment for his son. His father shares their  ordeal in the following words:

“I am a daily wager. Sometimes I earn an average of PKR. 500 a day. Some days I even come home empty handed. We have a house of our own, but with this amount of salary I have to cater to the needs of my family that includes my wife, Ammad and my three daughters. In these circumstances I can not afford to pay for my son’s eye surgery. But this surgery is crucial for my Hamza’s  well-being as his vision is also loosing. I want him to see and dream.”

In hopes of a brighter, disease free future, Ameer Hamza, awaits your donations to undergo the first step towards an improved life. Now that he has been connected with Transparent Hands, donate generously to assist Ameer Hamza in undergoing Phacoemulsification of the right eye with an intraocular lens (IOL).
