Shahla Ali's Story

Shahla Ali, a 3-year-old resident of Malakand, is facing the challenges of congenital hearing loss. After a medical diagnosis, her doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery as a potential solution to restore her hearing. However, Shahla’s family finds themselves in a difficult financial situation, making it impossible for them to afford the necessary surgical expenses.

Shahla resides in a small house in Malakand, where she lives with 12 other family members in a joint family setup. Her father serves as the sole earner, with a monthly income of PKR 25,000. In the face of inflation and with no additional source of income, he struggles to make ends meet, providing for the family’s needs. From arranging groceries to covering daily expenses and paying utility bills (PKR 4,000), every penny is carefully budgeted. Additionally, school fees (PKR 3,000) add to the financial burden. Sadly, due to this challenging situation, Shahla’s father has been unable to save any money to afford the surgical expenses required for her cochlear implant surgery.

Shahla’s father shares his anguish, saying, “Watching my beloved daughter struggle with her inability to hear is heartbreaking. Our financial limitations make it even more challenging to provide her with the necessary treatment.”
