Abdul Azeem's Story

Abdul Azeem, aged two years, a resident of Okara has been suffering from a lump in his right groin since birth. Upon medical examination, the doctors revealed that he is suffering from right Inguinal Hernia. An Inguinal Hernia occurs when tissue, such as a part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. The said bulge is painful while coughing and straining. Though Inguinal Hernia isn’t necessarily dangerous, it requires due treatment as it may, however, lead to life-threatening complications. Inguinal Hernia repair, that is a common surgical procedure termed, Herniotomy, is advised by the doctors. Herniotomy is carried out under general anaesthesia. A small incision is made in the groin on the side of the hernia after which the hernial contents are pushed back and the defect is fixed. Unfortunately now due to financial constraints Abdul Azeem’s Herniotomy seems to be an option that is out of the question. His father shares their story in the following words:

“I am a Labourer who earns PKR. 10,000 per month. I am living in my father’s house with my wife and two children. For the past few months I have seen my son, Azeem, churning in pain. First we took him to a government hospital in Lahore. There, he was diagnosed with hernia and further tests were done. The doctors advised him to undergo surgery. Later, weeks and eventually months passed by but we couldn’t secure a date for his operation. The only other option I had was to take my son to a private hospital. Abdul Azeem's Story

Two years old Abdul Azeem, from Okara had been suffering from right congenital Inguinal Hernia. After the consultation, he was advised to get his Herniotomy procedure done. For this purpose, Abdul Azeem was admitted to Lahore Care Hospital on 27-07-21 for his surgery. Dr. Sajjid Nayar successfully performed Azeem’s procedure and he was discharged the next day in satisfactory condition.
