Abeera Fatima's Story
Every time a hearing-impaired child visits us for registration, the entire team gets emotional. To see the kids brimming with potential and still unable to communicate their thoughts brings tears to our eyes. But, all is not lost. You can help Abeera unlock the world of sound. Please donate for Abeera’s Cochlear Implant surgery as much as you can without any delay.
Abeera Fatima, a four-year-old resident of Sahiwal, has been suffering from sensorineural hearing loss since birth. At first, her parents were not aware of her condition. Later, when she could not respond to their verbal cues and loud noises, her parents took her to a hospital. The doctor advised Abeera to get a hearing device, but her parents could not afford it. Now, as a permanent solution, the doctor has advised Abeera to undergo a Cochlear Implant surgery. It is a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that will give Abeera a modified sense of sound.
Unfortunately, Abeera’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of a Cochlear Implant surgery. Abeera’s father is a government employee. Despite long hours and hard work, he hardly manages to earn PKR 35,000 per month. This income is barely enough to keep the household running. Therefore, he is in no position to save up for his daughter’s surgery. Abeera’s father told us:
“It breaks my heart when I see my daughter always looking for cues, gestures, and hand movements. I want her to live like all the other children who don’t have to deal with this challenge. I want her to succeed and go to school.”
As a last resort, Abeera’s parents have registered her case with Transparent Hands. We are determined to help her in every way we can. But, it won’t be possible without your help. Therefore, we request you to please donate for Abeera’s Cochlear Implant as much as you can. Your donations, however small or big, will go a long way.
Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website. Following the surgery/medical procedure, we persist in collecting funds and maintain the campaign on the website until funding is secured in full. Hospitals have granted us a grace period for bill payment.
Abeera Fatima's Story
Four-year-old Abeera Fatima, a resident of Sahiwal, was born deaf and unable to hear, and she faced the heartbreaking reality of being unable to respond to her name or hear her parents' voices. The doctor suggested cochlear implant surgery as a possible solution, but her family could not afford the expensive procedure. In a desperate attempt to get help, they went to Transparent Hands, where the power of collective kindness gave Abeera another opportunity to live life to the fullest.
Abeera was admitted to the National Hospital and Medical Center, Lahore, where Dr. Naveed skillfully performed the cochlear implant surgery on 20-05-2023. The doctor successfully implanted the internal component with accuracy and expertise, constituting an important step in her quest for hearing restoration. After just one day in the hospital, she was discharged, with renewed hope.
But full hearing recovery was still a long way off. After a few weeks, the external component of the cochlear implant was expertly inserted, allowing the patient to hear sounds. Abeera's life changed drastically when she first experienced the wonder and complexity of language.
She has been referred to skilled speech therapists who will guide her through speech therapy sessions to help her improve her language and communication abilities. With the help of her cochlear implant, she was able to open herself up to a whole new world of learning, friendship, and fulfillment.
The transformative impact of the whole process is multiplied many times over when one realizes that her family was unable to pay for it. The generosity of donors like you who support Transparent Hands made this life-changing opportunity possible.
Abeera's ability to hear has opened up countless doors for her. The happy symphony of sound that follows her wherever she goes gives her strength and courage as the days pass. Donate for cochlear implant surgeries
