Azra Anwar's Story

For the past three years, Azra Anwar, aged 53, a resident of Khanewal was experiencing pain in the right hypochondrium, abdominal stretch and was also vomiting on and off. Upon medical evaluation she was diagnosed with Cholelithiasis. Cholelithiasis is the formation of gallstones. Her surgeon has now advised her to undergo laparoscopic cholecystectomy, that is a surgical procedure for the removal of the gallbladder. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints Azra Anwar can not afford this surgical procedure. As Azra Anwar awaits laparoscopic cholecystectomy, she narrates her tale in the following words:

“I used to be so healthy. I would finish household chores in a matter of a few hours. Me,my husband and our only daughter used to live together happily. But then unfortunately life took a grim turn. Eight years ago, my husband passed away due to Hepatitis C. I worked really hard to get our only daughter married off. I began living alone in my father’s house. Now for the past three years, my sole companion in loneliness has been this pain that I churn in. I make my ends meet with my father’s pension that I receive. In a meagre amount of PKR. 10,000. Now that I have found a good doctor I am not in the position to afford my surgery.”
