For the last ten years, Haleema Bibi has been suffering from Osteoarthritis involving both knees. Osteoarthritis is a condition that causes the cartilage in the knee joint to thin out. As a result the surfaces of the joint become roughened and create friction. It is because of this illness that Haleema remains unable to get up or walk. Moreover, the pain has become unbearable for her as well.
To treat this, the orthopedic surgeon has advised Haleema Bibi to undergo a bilateral total knee replacement surgery. It is a surgical procedure to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve pain and immobility. Previously, Transparent Hands arranged for Haleema Bibi’s surgery of her right leg. Now, Haleema Bibi needs to undergo surgery on her left leg. While the knee replacement seems like an easy solution to all of Haleema’s problems, it is certainly not an accessible solution. Unfortunately, she cannot afford the hefty cost of this surgery.
Haleema Bibi is a widow who used to earn her living by working as a house help. Now, due to her illness, she cannot work anymore. Thus, she relies on her son for her expenses. Her son works at a private firm and cannot afford the cost of the surgery. Haleema Bibi’s son told us:
“I do not have much to say right now. Just that I have seen my mother suffer a lifetime of pain in these last ten years. She has been bedridden for weeks now. I need you all to help my mother get back up on her feet.”

Haleema Bibi's Story
Fifty-six years old Haleema, from Okara, had been enduring knee pain for the last 10 years. Upon diagnosis, she was diagnosed with Bilateral Osteoarthritis. She came to us back in June 2021 to get her right knee treated. Now she needed to get A total knee replacement for her left knee. Hence, she was admitted to Akram Medical Complex. Her surgery was done by Dr. Naveed Ali Sher on 02-10-2021. Haleema was discharged after two days of hospital stay. Haleema is now cured.
