For the last ten years, Haleema Bibi has been suffering from Osteoarthritis involving both knees. Osteoarthritis is a condition that causes the cartilage in the knee joint to thin out. As a result the surfaces of the joint become roughened and create friction. It is because of this illness that Haleema remains unable to get up or walk. Moreover, the pain has become unbearable for her as well.
To treat this, the orthopedic surgeon has advised Haleema Bibi to undergo a bilateral total knee replacement surgery. It is a surgical procedure to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve pain and immobility. Previously, Transparent Hands arranged for Haleema Bibi’s surgery of her right leg. Now, Haleema Bibi needs to undergo surgery on her left leg. While the knee replacement seems like an easy solution to all of Haleema’s problems, it is certainly not an accessible solution. Unfortunately, she cannot afford the hefty cost of this surgery.
Haleema Bibi is a widow who used to earn her living by working as a house help. Now, due to her illness, she cannot work anymore. Thus, she relies on her son for her expenses. Her son works at a private firm and cannot afford the cost of the surgery. Haleema Bibi’s son told us:
“I do not have much to say right now. Just that I have seen my mother suffer a lifetime of pain in these last ten years. She has been bedridden for weeks now. I need you all to help my mother get back up on her feet.”

Haleema Bibi's Story
Haleema, a 56-year-old woman from Okara, had been suffering from knee pain for a decade. The persistent discomfort led her to seek medical advice, and she was diagnosed with Bilateral Osteoarthritis, a condition affecting both of her knees. Her journey for relief began in June 2021 when she sought treatment for her right knee. This initial treatment brought some respite, but the degenerative nature of osteoarthritis meant that her left knee also required medical attention.
Realizing the necessity of further intervention, Haleema decided to undergo a total knee replacement for her left knee. She was admitted to Akram Medical Complex, a reputable healthcare facility known for its specialized treatments. Dr. Naveed Ali Sher, an experienced orthopedic surgeon, was entrusted with her care.
The surgery was scheduled for October 2, 2021. Under Dr. Sher's expert hands, the procedure was carried out successfully.
