Four years old Hareem Fatima has been suffering from Anorectal malformation (ARM) categorized by congenital recto-vestibular fistula (RVF) ever since she was born. A congenital recto-vaginal fistula is a type of ARM characterized by the abnormal connection of the rectum to the vagina. This results in the passage of gas or feces through the vagina as it leaks through the fistulous communication. To treat this condition, Hareem Fatima has had a colostomy and PSARP surgery. Now, as the third and final step of the procedure, Hareem Fatima has to undergo a Colostomy closure surgery.
A colostomy closure surgery is an integral step in Hareem’s journey towards recovery. However, it is not an affordable surgery. Unfortunately, Hareem’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of a colostomy reversal surgery. Her previous surgeries were done at a public hospital. Now, because of COVID closures, they could get a date at any public hospital. Hareem’s father works in a dispensary in Lahore. His monthly income is not enough to pay the private surgical expenses of his daughter. He told us:
“My daughter is so close to living a normal life. So close that she could touch it if it were a material thing. The only hurdle is financial constraint. I request you all to please help my daughter.”

Hareem Fatima's Story
Hareem Fatima from Lahore, aged four years, was suffering from Anorectal Malformation since birth. She had Rectovestibular fistula because of which five days after her birth, a colostomy was performed and a stoma was placed. Few months back her PSARP surgery was conducted at a public hospital to make her back passage. She has significantly healed and the doctor has now advised her to undergo colostomy reversal. For this purpose, Hareem Fatima was registered at Transparent Hands. She later got admitted to Akram Medical Complex where her surgery was performed by Dr. Bilal Mirza on 05.07.2021. She stayed in the hospital for seven days and was discharged in a stable condition.
