Muhammad Ikram's Story
Muhammad Ikram, aged 7, a resident of Multan is suffering from developmental cataract affecting his right eye. A developmental cataract occurs early in childhood. Cataract is a clouding of the clear lens that eventually interferes with vision. Some signs and symptoms of cataracts include: dim, clouded or blurred vision, difficulty with vision during night, increasing sensitivity of the eye to light and glare, seeing “halos” around lights, double vision in affected eyes. In order to heal from ailment Muhammad Ikram, has been advised to undergo LMA of his right eye and placement of the intraocular lens (IOL). LMA with an intraocular lens (IOL) is a brief surgical procedure where the cataract-affected lens inside the eye is removed, and replaced with an artificial lens in its place. As, Muhammad Ikram awaits LMA of the right eye with an intraocular lens (IOL), his father shares their ordeal in the following words:
“I am a daily wager. I earn an average of PKR. 15000 per month. Some days I come home with PKR. 400 – 700 per day, sometimes I come home empty handed. We have a house of our own, but with this amount of salary I have to cater to the needs of my family that includes my wife, three sons and a daughter. In these circumstances I can not afford to pay for my son’s eye surgery. But this surgery is crucial for my son’s well-being as his vision is also deteriorating.”
In hopes of a brighter, disease free future, Muhammad Ikram awaits your donations to undergo the first step towards an improved life.
