Najma Parveen's Story

Najma Parveen, aged 58, hails from the Abbottabad district of the country and suffers from a condition called cholelithiasis i.e. formation of gallstones. These concretions are usually formed in the biliary tract in the gallbladder and are usually formed because of excessive cholesterol levels in the bile. It is this excess cholesterol that solidifies into what is commonly known as gallstones. Najma has been through a lot of pain already, but there is one hope that has kept her sane through this tough period. A laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. 

A lap cholecystectomy is performed to remove a cholelithiasis patient’s gallbladder. This is achieved by making a few small incisions on the right side of the patient’s abdominal region. A laparoscope is inserted through one of these incisions, which facilitates the surgery. While the surgery offers a permanent solution to cholelithiasis, there is no denying the fact that it is quite an expensive medical procedure. And this is exactly the reason why Najma has not been able to afford this surgical miracle for herself! 

You see, Najma hails from an underprivileged family of the society. Ever since her husband died, it is her son who has been taking care of her. And while striving with all his might to meet the expanses of daily life, affording Najma’s treatment is simply out of the question. Najma herself is doubtful about the chances of her surgery:
