Nasir Iqbal's Story

Before we dive into the gory history of Nasir Iqbal’s ailments, it is our request to please donate for Nasir’s hip-replacement surgery. For the last sixteen years, forty years old Nasir Iqbal has been suffering from severe pain in his knee joints. Upon consultation and further investigation, Nasir Iqbal was found to have Osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is a condition that causes the cartilage in the knee joint to thin out. In consequence, the surfaces of the joint roughens, thus creating friction. As a result, the movement becomes painful, and the joint becomes stiff. Slowly Nasir’s condition worsened, resulting in bilateral avascular necrosis. This AVN is the death of bone tissue secondary to loss of blood supply. It restricted Nasir’s mobility to walk as well. Nasir’s right hip is more affected than the left. Therefore, the doctor has advised Nasir to undergo hip replacement surgery for his right side. In this surgery, the doctor will replace Nasir’s hip joint with a prosthetic component.

Unfortunately, this surgery is not affordable for Nasir and his family at all. Nasir Iqbal is the sole earner of the family. He is a shopkeeper, and he hardly manages to earn PKR 30,000 per month. In this income, he hardly manages to keep his household running. Therefore, he finds himself in no position to arrange for his surgery. Nasir Iqbal told us:

“I have not walked painlessly for the last two decades. It seems as if my entire life is eaten out by this monstrous disease. I cannot take it anymore.”

Nasir Iqbal's Story

24 years ago, 40 years old Nasir Iqbal, a resident of Gujranwala felt severe pain in his legs. When the pain persisted for months, Nasir Iqbal consulted a doctor. On medical consultation, he was found to have bilateral AVN involving hip joints. The doctor recommended him to undergo a right THR (Total Hip Replacement). For this purpose, Nasir Iqbal was admitted to City Hospital Gujrat where his surgery was performed by Dr. Zahid on 9.10.2021. He stayed in the hospital for three days and was discharged in a satisfactory condition.
