Taj Bibi's Story

Taj Bibi (46 years old) lives with her son in district Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her son is the sole bread earner of a five-membered family. Taj Bibi herself is a widow and depends on her elder son for support and survival. The family lives in a 3 Marla house and their income is not enough for them to be able to live comfortably, so the problem of treating her cholelithiasis is out of the question.

You read it correctly. Taj Bibi suffers from cholelithiasis which means that she has stones in her gallbladder. The presence of these stones causes pain that feels more intense in the upper portion of the abdomen on the right side. Fortunately, all hope is not lost for her. There is still a treatment option available, as recommended by her doctor and also her ultrasound specialist. Taj Bibi needs a cholecystectomy! This will involve removing her gallbladder to relieve the pain caused by the gallstones. Unfortunately, this is an expensive procedure. Hear Taj Bibi’s side of the story:

“I felt a very sharp pain in the upper part of my abdomen. I did not take it seriously, thinking it would go away eventually, but it didn’t. It became more painful with time and I decided to listen to the doctors and finally get my gallbladder removed.
