Fakhar Abbas's Story

“Ever since my husband fell from the high floor of a building, he has been suffering from severe pain and is slowly losing his mobility. My children are too little to understand their father’s pain. Every single day they ask him to take them out, play with them but my husband is not even able to walk. It’s hard to see him suffer like this. Fakhar Abbas is a 31 years old man who is suffering from bilateral Ankylosis – a condition in which the joints fuse together and the patient is unable to move properly. He is a carpenter and started suffering from this condition after he fell from the second floor of a building seven years ago while working. Initially, he felt immense pain which he tried to bear but a year later, Fakhar’s joints fused together, causing immobility and pain. It has been seven years now, he cannot walk properly or even drive his bike.

Fakhar is the father of three children, one school-going son and two daughters under the age of six. He lives with his family in a small rented house of a single room and pays 5,000 PKR rent per month. He is only able to earn 15,000-20,000 PKR a month, which varies from time to time depending on his severity of pain. After many visits to the local and private hospitals, Fakhar was advised a total hip replacement surgery. His first surgery was done in July 2019 through Transparent Hands and now he needs a second surgery to get back on his feet again.
