Ghulam Fareed's Story

“We are struggling every day and night. My brothers are living separately from us not even bothering to know about our well-being. My younger brother earns only a little and my mother will not be able to work due to her old age. If something happens to me, my family will starve.” – Ghulam Fareed

22 years old Ghulam Fareed is a young man with big dreams. When Fareed’s brothers left him, his younger brother and mother, he committed to work hard and do everything he could to change his family’s destiny, to provide them with a better future. But unfortunately, Fareed’s health didn’t allow him to pursue his dreams.

Fareed was diagnosed with Chronic Tonsils. Due to lack of awareness, he ignored the pain initially as it was not bothering him much. But with the passage of time, his pain turned worse and he started to experience other symptoms as well including fever, pain in throat and difficulty in swallowing food. Fareed works as a carpenter and earns around 15,000 PKR a month. His younger brother also helps with household expenses by selling milk. His mother often remains sick and unable to do perform her day-to-day duties.

Fareed went to many doctors for treatment but all of them recommended him to undergo surgery as a permanent solution. Without surgery, his condition will only deteriorate further. Helpless and poverty-stricken, Fareed came across Transparent Hands and requested to help.
