Jamila Aslam's Story

Jamila Aslam, 31 years old, has been suffering from intense abdominal pain and nausea for a year. Upon many visits to numerous hospitals, she was finally diagnosed with cholelithiasis better known as gallstones. In the last 6 months, her condition has only worsened. The constant pain affects her day to day life, greatly. In order to find relief from pain, Jamila needs surgery- a cholecystectomy.

Life became especially hard for Jamila in the past few months. Her father passed away after a long battle with liver cancer. Most of the resources were expended on his treatment and Jamila’s family was almost on the verge of selling the small house that she, along with her 6 siblings and parents, lives in. Now, the entire family is dependent on Jamila’s two elder brothers. With their collective earning amounting to 15,000 PKR a month, the family lacks the resources required to get her treated.

“Her father had been so ill that Jamila’s condition went neglected. She never even talked to us about it until her bouts of pain became really unbearable. Our family has been through a lot in the past year. I just want all my children to finally find some ease and peace. Of course, for people like us who have more than one burden to bear every day, peace doesn’t come by as easily. I hope somebody helps out my daughter.” – Jamila’s mother
