Muhammad Bilal's Story

Muhammad Bilal, 3 years old, suffers from anorectal malformation- a congenital condition resulting in a malformed stool passage. In order to correct this, he requires a PSARP surgery as soon as possible after which, he will be able to perform his bowel function normally.

Bilal’s first surgery for his condition- a colostomy- was done at a local hospital a few weeks after he was born. In this surgery, a temporary passage for stool was made through his intestine. Since then, his PSARP surgery has been planned to construct his back passage at the normal site but has been continually postponed.

I worry so much about his future. Bilal’s father, Haider Ali, is a door to door cloth seller, who earns around 15,000 PKR a month. He has 5 family members to support with this salary. Living in the expensive city of Lahore, this amount barely manages to get the family through the month. Owing to these financial constraints, Haider Ali has not been able to get his son’s treatment conducted on his own. This is why he has approached Transparent Hands for help.

Muhammad Bilal, 3 years old, had an absent back passage. He was diagnosed with anorectal malformation. He was advised surgery (posterior sagittal anorectoplasty or PSARP). His surgery was performed by Dr. Sajid Iqbal, on 20-07-20. He recovered well in his 4 days of hospital stay and was discharged in a stable condition.
