Muhammad Hassan's Story

Muhammad Hassan, 3 years old, started developing swelling, pain, and irritability in his right inguinal area about a year ago. He was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia and was advised surgery, right herniotomy, to fix it. Owing to his family’s financial constraints, he cannot have the surgery and has been living with this condition for almost 13 months.

“He used to be such a joyful baby ever since he was born. But for so many months now, he wakes up crying, goes to sleep crying, is irritable all the time, and barely eats. We have been trying so hard to get him treated, but wherever we go, we are turned away because we cannot pay much. My little boy is suffering and I am helpless.” – Hassan’s father.

Hassan’s father, Amir Abbas, is a fruit vendor and manages to earn 400-500 PKR a day. He has a 4-year-old boy and a 7-month-old girl, apart from Hassan. He is the only earning hand in the family. Hassan’s mother is unable to work because she has three small children and a household to look after. With 3 children and a wife to support, Amir’s income proves insufficient each month even to buy basic sustenance. He cannot afford to pay for his son’s medical expenses.

Amir sought help at various local hospitals for a free surgery but was unable to get an appointment for Hassan. He then learned of Transparent Hands and registered his case.
