Old age is a hindrance in a person’s life and just like adversity old age never comes alone. It always brings its consequences with it. Oftentimes, these consequences are far worse than the problem itself. Same is the case with 76-year-old Muhammad Sharif who has been suffering from an enlarged prostate for the past one year. Initially, the doctor prescribed some medicines but they did not provide any significant relief.
Muhammad Sharif has been bedridden for the last four months as his symptoms drastically increased to a point of no return. Now, considering his age and gravity of his condition, the doctor has advised Muhammad Sharif to undergo Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) – a procedure in which the enlarged tissue is removed through electrocautery or sharp dissection.
Muhammad Sharif’s elder son is the sole earner of the family. 5 family members including Muhammad Sharif are financially dependent on him. With a family of 5 to take care of on a monthly income of PKR 14000, he is in no position to bear the expense of his father’s treatment.

Muhammad Sharif's Story
Muhammad Sharif, 76 years old, presented complaints like burning sensation during micturition and urinary retention. On complete check-up, he was diagnosed with enlarged prostate and the urologist advised surgical intervention. For this purpose, Sharif was admitted in Abid hospital and a procedure called transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was performed by Dr. Asif Hameed on 29.11.2020. Post-surgery, Sharif stayed in the hospital for three days and was discharged in stable condition. He is recovering well from his surgery.
