Madiha Ishtiaq's Story

Madiha Ishtiaq, a 34-year-old woman from Tando Muhammad Khan, Sindh, has been experiencing severe pain in her right upper abdomen for the past two years. Along with the persistent pain, she suffers from frequent nausea and vomiting, making even simple daily activities a struggle. She visited a hospital, where a doctor diagnosed her with Cholelithiasis. It is characterized by the formation of hard mineral deposits in the gallbladder. The doctor recommended a cholecystectomy, a surgery to remove the gallbladder and relieve her of the constant discomfort. However, Madiha’s family can’t afford the surgery.

Without this surgical intervention, Madiha’s condition will continue to deteriorate. It may increase the risk of complications such as gallbladder infection or pancreatitis.

Madiha is a divorcee and lives in a rented house, for which the family pays a monthly rent of PKR 14,000. She has two young children who depend on her for care and support. Her household also includes her two sisters and her paternal aunt. She and one of her sisters work at a local company, and bring home a combined monthly income of only PKR 16,000. After paying the rent and utility bills of PKR 2,500, they are left with almost nothing for groceries and medical needs.

Every day, Madiha faces both physical pain and emotional distress, knowing that her condition affects not only her health but also the well-being of her children and family. During this difficult time, Madiha has reached out to Transparent Hands with a desperate appeal for help. Madiha said in despair:
