Hammad Shinwari, a young child aged four years is residing in Khyber. His parents realized that he was deafeningly ignoring any sounds and would not react to even loud noises. He didn’t respond to calls from his siblings or listen when his name was called. When he was around 12 months old, his parents became concerned and took him to the doctor. The ENT specialist ran a series of tests and found that he had bilateral significant sensorineural hearing loss. Hammad’s doctor also recommended that he have a cochlear implant.
A Cochlear Implant is a sound-perception neuroprosthetic device that is surgically implanted behind the patient’s ear. It receives sound from the outside environment, processes it, and sends small electric currents near the auditory nerve. The brain learns to recognize these signals, and the person experiences this as “hearing”.
Hammad’s father is a laborer and his family relies on financial assistance from relatives to meet monthly expenses. They are a family of seven. It is hardly possible for them to manage basic expenses depending on financial support.
“Hammad has the most innocent eyes I’ve ever seen. He is an exceptionally bright young man. I wish he could hear and respond to what we’re saying.”
– Hammad’s father.
A member of the hospital’s administrative staff told them about Transparent Hands after learning about their challenging condition. His father approached our main office personnel and requested that his son be registered.
Hammad has his whole life before him. As Hammad awaits Cochlear Implant Surgery, we would request you to please donate for his cause and provide him with the gift of hearing.

Hammad Shinwari 's Story
Four-year-old Hammad Shinwari a resident of Kyber was born with the inability to hear. His parents only noticed it when he turned a year old. He was taken to an ENT specialist where he was diagnosed with congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss. Initially, Hammad was advised to get a hearing aid device, but his parents could not afford it. Over time, his hearing ability did not develop, and upon further consultation, he was advised to undergo Cochlear Implant surgery. They came to Transparent Hands to ask for help. We sent Hammad to Ali Medical Complex, Islamabad, to get his Cochlear Implant surgery done by Dr. Jawwad Ahmed on 06-01-2022. He was discharged the following day in a stable condition. Hammad Shinwari can hear the voices of his parents now. The external component will be fixed after six weeks.
