Iznah, a five-year-old Haripur resident, was born with congenital sensorineural hearing loss, a condition that has left her in a world of silence. Her parents noticed that she was not responding to their voices when she was just one year old, and their worst fears were confirmed by medical tests and doctor consultations. She was diagnosed with sensorineural deafness. Her doctor advised cochlear implant surgery. Her family can’t afford this surgery. Without this treatment, Iznah will have a hard time communicating and learning, and she won’t be able to enjoy the simple pleasure of hearing the world around her.
She lives with her parents and two siblings. Her father just earns PKR 25,000 per month, which is not sufficient to pay for surgical expenses. Her father said it in despair.
