Khalid Hussain's Story
Khalid Hussain, a 1-year-old boy from Hyderabad, has been struggling with discomfort that no child of his age should have to experience. He has a small lump in his right groin. Over the past two months, it began to swell and cause pain. Alarmed by their little son’s growing illness, Khalid’s parents took him to a local hospital for a thorough check-up. After careful examination and diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed Khalid with a Right-Sided Inguinal Hernia. It is a condition where a part of the intestine or tissue pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall into the groin area. The doctor advised Herniotomy, a surgical procedure to repair the hernia. However, the cost of the surgery is overwhelming for her family.
If left untreated, Khalid’s condition will deteriorate over time. It may potentially lead to complications like bowel obstruction or strangulation of the intestine. This will cause severe pain, and infections, and may become life-threatening.
Khalid’s father is a daily wage laborer who struggles to find consistent work. Some days he earns a small amount, while on others he comes home empty-handed. Even on the better days, his income hardly reaches PKR 12,000 per month, barely enough to feed his family of six and cover basic needs. They live in a temporary, makeshift house with limited facilities, constantly worried about their next meal or how to manage essential household expenses. With such an unstable financial situation, affording Khalid’s surgery is simply impossible for them.
Khalid’s parents shared their sorrow and plea for help as follows:
