Bahawal Sher, a 20-year-old resident of Lahore, is dealing with a deadly disease known as Transposition of the great arteries (TGA). Transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is a type of congenital heart defect. In this condition, the two major arteries that carry blood away from the heart aren’t connected as they should be. Initially, he had symptoms of shortness of breath and discoloration of skin and nails. The doctors prescribed him medication but it didn’t bring him any relief and his condition worsened. Therefore, doctors recommended more medical tests along with diagnostic Angiography. His Angiography reports revealed that he was suffering from Pulmonary Stenosis and Enlarged Right Pulmonary Artery resulting in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) is high blood pressure in the lungs. The doctor advised him to undergo an Open Heart Surgery and CP Shunt.

Bahawal Sher’s father is a daily wager and earns a meager amount monthly. They have no financial support from any friends or relatives. They completely depend on their father’s income for their basic needs. In such circumstances and with a family of five to support, it is impossible for them to afford the cost of this procedure.

Bahawal Sher, a 20-year-old resident of Lahore, had been enduring difficulty in breathing and bluish skin discoloration since he was born. He was not healthy and the doctors asked his parents to investigate further with Angiography for a better diagnosis. His angiography was performed with the help of Transparent Hands back in 2021. After the angiography, Bahawal was found to have a Univentricular Heart with Transposition of Great Arteries. The doctor advised him to undergo Open-heart Surgery for the right CP Shunt placement. He was sent to the Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore. His procedure was performed by Dr. Muhammad Asim Khan on 03-02-2022. He was discharged after 14 days of hospital stay in satisfactory condition and now looks forward to a healthy, bright future. Bahawal’s surgery was made possible with the help of the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation.
