Let’s Provide Cataract Surgeries to Needy Patients in Pakistan

As part of Transparent Hands’ ongoing efforts to help those suffering from visual impairments, we’re launching a new initiative to restore the eyesight of 44 deserving patients awaiting cataract surgeries in Pakistan. These patients belong to underprivileged communities where quality healthcare is out of reach due to multiple factors, including financial constraints. With your generous support, we aim to help them regain their sight, empowering them to live fuller and independent lives.
Challenges Faced by Patients
Cataract is a major cause of preventable blindness in Pakistan. Patients suffering from cataracts face numerous challenges, including difficulty performing everyday tasks, loss of income, and dependence on family members for even basic activities. For breadwinners, cataract often leads to financial struggles as they are unable to provide for their families.
Studies indicate that around 21 million people are living with visual impairment and blindness in Pakistan. Out of these, more than 50% of the cases are caused by cataract.
In rural and underserved areas, the situation is worsened by a lack of awareness, limited resources, and access to eye care services. Many people live with blurry and dim vision because they do not have the knowledge or means to seek necessary treatment.
Consequences of Untreated Cataract
If these 44 patients do not receive cataract surgery, their vision may continue to deteriorate, leading to complete blindness. This will significantly affect their quality of life, making it impossible for them to carry out even basic tasks like walking independently and recognizing loved ones’ faces. Moreover, these individuals will remain trapped in a life of dependency, isolation, and despair.
Transparent Hands’ Solution
At Transparent Hands, we believe that no one should suffer from vision issues due to financial hardships. That’s why we’ve launched this nationwide initiative to provide cataract surgeries to deserving patients. By partnering with our trusted panel hospitals, we will ensure that each patient receives quality healthcare. The cataract surgeries will be performed by skilled eye surgeons and the 44 needy patients will receive high-quality Alcon IQ lenses and post-operative care.
Total Cost
Each cataract surgery costs around $180. With approximately $8000, we aim to change the lives of 44 needy individuals suffering from cataracts in Pakistan.

In Pakistan, over 51% of blindness is caused by cataract. Recently, Transparent Hands successfully provided free treatments to 46 patients who had been living in darkness for a long time. These individuals had been struggling with vision loss, which made even simple daily tasks like walking, cooking, or recognizing faces extremely difficult for them. A thorough medical evaluation revealed that they were suffering from cataract in one or both eyes, and the only solution was Phaco + IOL surgery.
However, the cost of surgery was beyond their financial reach. Many of these patients were daily wage earners, homemakers, or the only providers for their families, and their impaired vision took away their independence. With no financial support and growing isolation, their hope was fading.
Through the incredible support of generous donors, Transparent Hands provided them with free cataract surgeries. They received high-quality lenses, including AcrySof IQ IOL (Alcon) and UltraSert (Pre Loaded). These intraocular lenses are known for delivering excellent visual outcomes. All surgeries were performed by expert ophthalmologists at our panel hospitals, following strict safety and hygiene protocols. Post-operative care, medications, and follow-ups were also provided at no cost to the patients.
The following are the details of all the needy patients who underwent eye surgeries through your support.
