Umair Ali's Story

Meet Umair Ali, a 7-year-old boy from Sargodha, who has been suffering from shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. His skin and lips frequently turn blue, and even simple activities like walking a short distance or playing with friends leave him breathless and exhausted. He struggles to grow normally and falls behind other children of his age. Recently, his parents took him to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After running some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed Umair with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). It is a condition characterized by four heart abnormalities. To treat this issue, the doctor has advised open-heart surgery for total correction. However, the cost of the surgery is overwhelming for Umair’s family.

Umair has already spent a long time battling with heart complications, which often leave him feeling exhausted and fatigued. Without this surgery, Umair’s condition will deteriorate. Delaying the treatment may lead to severe breathing difficulties and heart failure.

Umair lives in a humble home with his joint family of eight members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, is a daily wage laborer and brings in just PKR 30,000 per month. After covering their utility bills of PKR 7000, paying for educational fees amounting to PKR 1500, and meeting other essential household expenses, they are left with nothing to save for Umair’s surgery. Umair’s condition is declining day by day, and his family has no option other than to seek help from Transparent Hands.
