Musarat Bibi awaits Phaco of the Right Eye

Musarat Bibi's Story

Musarat Bibi, aged 31 years is a resident of Multan. For the past five months she has been experiencing pain, discomfort and shortsightedness. She is diagnosed to have been suffering from a cataract affecting her right eye. A cataract is a clouding of the clear lens that eventually interferes with vision. Some signs and symptoms of cataracts include: dim, clouded or blurred vision, difficulty with vision during night, increasing sensitivity of the eye to light and glare and double vision in affected eyes. In order to heal from this ailment, Musarat Bibi has been advised to undergo Phaco of her right eye and placement of the intraocular lens (IOL). Phaco with an intraocular lens (IOL) is a brief surgical procedure where the cataract-affected lens inside the eye is removed, and replaced with an artificial lens in its place. As, Musarat Bibi awaits Phaco of the right eye with an intraocular lens (IOL), she shares her story in the following words:

“My husband is a daily wager who earns an average of PKR. 300 – 400 per day, sometimes he even comes home empty handed. We are living in my mother’s house. With this amount of salary my husband has to run the entire household and also raise our adopted daughter. In these circumstances he can not afford to pay for my eye surgery. But this surgery is crucial for my  well-being as my vision is now deteriorating.”
