Naeem Awaits Laparotomy for Stoma Reversal
Naeem Akhtar's Story
Naeem Akhtar, a 61-year-old man from Mandi Bahauddin, has been facing a daunting health challenge for the past 8 months. He has been suffering from a persistent and infected perianal wound, which has only been exacerbated by his underlying condition of diabetes.
In a bid to address the issue, Naeem underwent surgery on September 23, 2023, which included perianal wound debridement and the creation of a diversion colostomy. This procedure was aimed at preventing further stool contamination and allowing the wound to heal. However, the battle is far from over. He needs a stoma reversal surgery now. After undergoing a thorough loopogram, the doctor advised him to undergo laparotomy for stoma reversal.
Naeem’s situation is further compounded by his family’s financial constraints. He lives in a rented house with his three children in Mandi Bahauddin. Naeem is unable to work, and the sole breadwinner in the family is his son, who is employed in a factory. His monthly income is approximately PKR 40,000 to manage all the household expenses.
“The past 8 months have been a constant struggle for me and my family,” Naeem shares with a heavy heart. “This infected wound has taken a toll on my physical and emotional well-being, and the thought of undergoing additional surgical procedures fills me with anxiety. However, I have no choice but to seek the necessary treatment to regain my health and independence.”
Naeem’s family’s financial situation is dire, as the cost of his previous surgery and ongoing medical care has been a significant burden. “My son’s factory job is our only source of income, and it simply isn’t enough to cover the expenses of my treatment. I am utterly dependent on the kindness and generosity of others to help me overcome this challenge.”
Naeem’s case has been registered with Transparent Hands. Naeem is now relying on the compassion of donors to help him secure the funds required for his critical surgery.
