Shahida Bibi, aged forty one years old, a resident of Baba Island,  Karachi, has been suffering from pain and swelling on the left side of his neck for the last six years. She was prescribed symptomatic treatment by a local doctor but she was not relieved of her pain. She lives far from Karachi and cannot afford to travel back and forth to Karachi. She went for a consultation and the doctor diagnosed her with Chronic Sialadenitis. A salivary gland infection is also called Sialadenitis and is caused by bacteria or viruses secondary to blockage of the salivary gland duct. After the diagnosis, the doctor advised her to undergo a left Submandibular Gland Excision. 

Shahida’s husband is a fisherman and only earns PKR. 12000-13000. He cannot afford the hefty cost of his wife’s procedure. A doctor at Patel hospital referred them to Transparent Hands. Shahida shared her distress with us in the following manner:

“I live so far from the city, my husband earns merely enough to provide for my kids and their basic needs. I am in so much pain and knowing my husband’s monthly income, I bear it silently. I am helpless. My hopes are tied with Transparent Hands, I hope they will help me.”
