Two-year-old Manha Aqeel, a resident of Swat, was born without the ability to hear. When she was a year old, her parents realised something was wrong and took her to the doctor for advice. After a series of tests, the doctor concluded that she had sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor has advised her to undergo cochlear implant surgery to enable her to hear. She would be able to hear and explore the world of sound with this device. The cochlear implant has two components. One is surgically implanted close to the ear, and the external component is installed a few weeks after the surgery.

Manha lives in a joint family with seven members. Her father is a daily wager and earns just PKR 20,000 per month. There is no other way for him to make money. The cost of implanting a cochlear device is high. Due to financial constraints, he is unable to afford the surgical expenses. Her father said in a depressed tone:
