Sundas Iftikhar's Story

Sundas Iftikhar, a 30-year-old resident of Lahore, has been grappling with a persistent and debilitating health issue for some time now. For the past few months, she has been experiencing pain in her lower abdomen, accompanied by a growing lump in the central region of her belly. The swelling around her umbilicus has also been steadily increasing in size, causing her significant discomfort and concern.

Sundas sought the expertise of a general surgeon, who, after a thorough examination and diagnostic tests, including an ultrasound, diagnosed her with a paraumbilical hernia. The doctor has now advised Sundas to undergo a mesh hernioplasty, a surgical procedure to repair the hernia, as well as an abdominal lipectomy to address the excess skin and fat in the affected area.

Sundas lives in a modest two-room house in Lahore, together with her husband and their two young children. Her husband is a daily wage earner, with an approximate monthly income of PKR 30,000. However, the family’s financial obligations are substantial, with utility bills amounting to PKR 2,500 and school fees for the children, costing PKR 7,000 per month.

“This hernia has been a constant source of pain and discomfort for me, and it has significantly impacted my ability to fulfill my duties as a wife and mother,” Sundas shares, her voice laced with concern. “I long for the day when I can be free of this condition and regain my full health and vitality, but the cost of the recommended procedures is simply beyond our means.”

Sundas’ husband is desperate to help his wife, but with the family’s limited resources, he is unable to afford the surgical expenses. Sundas and her family are now turned to the generosity of donors via Transparent Hands to help cover the cost of the mesh hernioplasty and abdominal lipectomy, which are crucial for her recovery and well-being.
