Muhammad Zohan’s parents first noticed his hearing difficulties when he was one year old and failed to respond to their voices. Concerned, they took him to the local hospital, where tests revealed that he had congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The doctors recommended cochlear implant surgery as a solution to restore his hearing. A cochlear implant works by electrically stimulating the cochlear nerve, consisting of external and internal components. The external part is attached behind the ear, processing sounds with a microphone before sending them to the implant inside the ear.

Muhammad Zohan lives with his parents and three siblings in Haripur. His father is the sole provider for the family, earning a monthly salary of PKR 26,000.
