Shahzaib Ahmed's Story
Shahzaib Ahmed, a 22-year-old resident of Sialkot, has bravely faced a lifelong battle with a complex congenital heart disease. Since birth, he has endured the debilitating symptoms of shortness of breath, chest pain, and extreme fatigue, which have severely limited his ability to live a full and active life.
In 2020, Shahzaib underwent his first open-heart surgery, a BDG shunt procedure, to help manage his condition. However, his journey has been far from over, as he now faces the urgent need for a Redo-Open Heart Surgery to undergo the Fontan procedure – a critical step in treating his transposition of the great arteries (TGA), ventricular septal defect (VSD), and pulmonary stenosis (PS).
Tragically, Shahzaib’s family is facing immense financial hardship, as his father is currently unemployed due to his own health challenges. With the family’s sole breadwinner being Shahzaib’s brother, a daily wage earner making just 25,000 PKR per month, the prospect of affording the life-saving surgery is an overwhelming burden.
Shahzaib’s family lives in their own home, but must contend with mounting utility bills and a substantial loan of 800,000 PKR, leaving them with little means to cover the costs of the critical Redo-Open Heart Surgery.
“I’ve fought this battle for as long as I can remember, but now I fear that the journey may come to an end if I cannot receive the surgery I so desperately need,” says Shahzaib.
“My family has done everything in their power to support me, but the financial strain has become too much to bear alone. I am pleading for the generosity of others to help me reclaim my health and my life.”
With your compassionate contribution, you can help ease the burden on Shahzaib’s family and provide him with the life-saving treatment he requires. Your support will not only transform Shahzaib’s life but also restore hope and stability to his loved ones during this immensely challenging time.

Shahzaib Ahmed's Story
Shahzaib Ahmed, a 22-year-old man from Sialkot, had been experiencing debilitating symptoms like breathlessness, chest discomfort, and fatigue since birth due to a heart condition diagnosed as Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), and Pulmonary Stenosis (PS).He underwent his first open-heart surgery for CP Shunt (BDG Shunt) on 20th February 2020. After some time, he went for a follow-up and underwent angiography. After evaluation, the doctor recommended a redo-open heart surgery for the Fontan procedure. However, the significant cost of the surgery was overwhelming for his family.
As a student, he was unable to perform well and obtain good grades. Shahzaib lived in a small house with his four family members. His father was unemployed due to his heart condition. Shahzaib’s brother, the sole breadwinner of the family, worked as a daily wage laborer and made just PKR 25000 per month. They faced immense financial limitations and paying for Shahzaib’s life-saving surgery seemed impossible. During this challenging time, Shahzaib’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. After listening to their concerns, we registered his case.
On 3rd October 2024, Shahzaib was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. His surgery took place on 4th October 2024. Dr. Salman Shah performed his redo-open heart surgery, giving him a second chance at life. After the successful surgery, Shahzaib received post-operative care and was discharged in satisfactory condition on 8th October 2024.
Shahzaib’s parents said with tears of happiness:
“Shahzaib’s lifelong struggle with his heart condition has come to an end now. We wanted to save his life, but we were facing financial hardships and couldn’t pay for his surgery. You supported us in this hard time. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity.”
He can focus on his studies now and have a healthy life. His family is immensely thankful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for making a meaningful difference in his life.
