This little girl’s only chance of living a healthy life depends on open-heart surgery. Six-year-old Zareena Bibi, a resident of Bhakkar, has suffered from shortness of breath and cyanosis since birth. She is also unable to gain weight. Her parents learned about her condition at the age of one. They took her to a local hospital. After the diagnostic tests and evaluation, the doctor diagnosed her with a congenital heart condition involving Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The cardiac surgeon advised her for angiography followed by Open-Heart Surgery for total correction.

Zareena Bibi lives in a small house with her parents and four siblings. His father has a meager income of PKR 14,000 per month. He works hard every day to provide for his family, but Zareena’s surgery is too expensive for him to bear alone. Her father said in despair:

Zareena Bibi's Story

A six-year-old Zareena Bibi, a brave little girl from Bhakkar, had been struggling with shortness of breath and cyanosis since the day she was born. Her parents, concerned about her health, sought medical help when she turned one. It was then that they received the heartbreaking news that Zareena had a congenital heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).

Determined to find a solution for their precious daughter, Zareena's parents took her to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed the diagnosis. They were advised that an angiography followed by open-heart surgery for total correction was the best course of action. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond their means, and they felt helpless and unsure of how to proceed.

In their moment of despair, they reached out to Transparent Hands, an organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to those in need. Placing their hopes in the organization, Zareena's family registered her case, hoping for a miracle.

Save the Lives of Deserving Patients

The heartfelt plea did not go unheard. Transparent Hands, along with the generous support of donors, rallied together to make Zareena's dream of a healthy life a reality. With the combined efforts of Transparent Hands, the donors, and the Pakistan Children's Heart Foundation, Zareena's case was swiftly processed. She was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore, where the skilled cardiac surgeon, Dr. Asim Khan, performed the necessary procedure of median sternotomy and total correction on 2nd November 2023.

Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Khan and the dedicated medical team, Zareena's surgery was a success. The operation lasted several hours, and Zareena showed remarkable resilience throughout the process. She stayed in the hospital for eight days, receiving the necessary post-operative care and support. Zareena's parents were overwhelmed with gratitude.
