Um e Kalsoom's Story

Umm-e-Kalsoom, a 22-year-old woman from Lahore, is currently 26 weeks pregnant with her third child. For her, this time should be filled with happiness, but it’s overshadowed by constant worry. She has a history of a C-section, which increases the medical risks for this pregnancy. During her recent check-ups, her gynecologist advised a C-section to safely deliver the baby and prevent complications during labor. Attempting a natural delivery after a previous C-section may lead to serious complications such as uterine rupture, excessive bleeding, or risks to the baby. Timely surgical intervention will ensure that both the mother and baby are protected. Unfortunately, the cost of the C-section is beyond her family’s means.

Umm-e-Kalsoom lives with her husband and a child in a modest home in Lahore. Her husband, the sole provider for the family, is a food delivery rider and makes just PKR 30,000 per month. This income is insignificant to cover their household expenses, including utility bills and grocery expenses. They face immense financial hardships and can’t afford her much-needed C-section.
