Miraj Fatima's Story

Miraj Fatima, a 1.5-year-old girl from Bahawalnagar, has been suffering from chest discomfort and breathlessness since birth. Her parents observed that she often became tired quickly, struggled to breathe properly, and her lips and skin sometimes turned bluish. Concerned about her worsening condition, Miraj’s parents took her for medical evaluation. After detailed tests and examinations, the doctor diagnosed her with multiple complex congenital heart defects, including Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Double Chambered Right Ventricle (DCRV), and Supravalvular Pulmonary Stenosis (PS). These are heart defects that put excessive strain on her heart. To save her life and improve her heart function, her doctor has advised an open-heart surgery for total correction. If Miraj does not undergo the recommended heart surgery, her condition may become life-threatening. She may face severely limited physical growth, chronic oxygen deprivation, and heart failure. Without treatment, her chances of living a healthy childhood will decrease with time.

Financially, the family is facing severe hardships. Miraj lives with her parents in their small house. Her father works as a laborer and earns only PKR 25,000 per month. This limited income is barely enough to manage household expenses, including utility bills of PKR 2,000. On top of this, the family is already burdened with a loan of PKR 200,000. This situation makes it impossible for them to arrange the cost of such a major surgery.

Miraj’s mother said in despair:

“When I see my daughter struggling to breathe, I feel completely helpless. She is so young, but she suffers due to her heart condition. Our financial situation has placed this treatment far beyond our reach. Kindly save my daughter’s life.”
