Shahzana Mustafa's Story

Shahzana Mustafa, a 38-year-old widow from Hyderabad, Sindh, is suffering from pain due to a lump on the front of her neck. This lump has gradually increased in size and is causing discomfort and pain. Shahzana’s daily life has become challenging, as even simple tasks such as cooking, caring for her children, and managing household chores have become difficult due to her condition. Concerned about her health, Shahzana consulted a doctor. After undergoing thorough tests and an evaluation, she was diagnosed with a Cold Nodule in the Right Lobe of the Thyroid. It is a thyroid growth that does not produce thyroid hormones and requires surgical removal due to the risk of complications. The doctor advised Right Lobectomy with Isthmusectomy, a surgical removal of the thyroid’s right lobe along with the connecting isthmus. If Shahzana Mustafa does not undergo surgery, her condition may lead to increase in size of nodule and cause pressure effects. Additionally, there is a risk that this lump may develop into cancer.

Shahzana’s life has been filled with hardships. Her husband has passed away. She has three children, two sons and one daughter. One of her sons is visually impaired, which adds to the family’s challenges. Shahzana relies entirely on the support of neighbors and relatives, which amounts to only about PKR 8,000 per month. They live in a mud house owned by her father-in-law, which barely provides shelter and comfort. Given their financial constraints, affording a major surgery like this is impossible for them.

Shahzana shared her heartfelt plea as follows: “Living with this illness for so many years has made life increasingly challenging. I cannot take care of my children properly, and I do not have the means to pay for my surgery. We barely manage our living expenses. I need your support during this time of hardship. Please help me.”
