Maryam’s Eye Surgery Was a Remarkable Success

Maryam Yaar Muhammad, a 66-year-old widow from Hyderabad, had been living with blurry vision in her right eye for the past five years. Routine tasks, like cooking, cleaning, and even recognizing loved ones’ faces, became increasingly difficult for her. As her eyesight deteriorated, so did her independence, leaving her feeling helpless. Maryam visited a local hospital where she underwent a series of medical tests. The doctor diagnosed her with a cataract in her right eye, a condition that causes the eye’s natural lens to become cloudy, severely affecting vision. To restore her eyesight and improve her quality of life, the doctor recommended Phacoemulsification with Intraocular Lens (Phaco + IOL) surgery. However, the cost of the procedure was beyond Maryam’s financial capacity.

Maryam lives in a modest rented home with her only daughter, who is unmarried and works as a sewing machine operator in a garment factory. With a monthly income of just PKR 20,000, her daughter struggles to manage the household expenses. Covering the cost of an eye surgery was simply out of the question. On April 8, 2025, her Phaco + IOL surgery was performed successfully by Dr. Yaruq Sami at Isra University Welfare Hospital in Hyderabad. An Aspheric Intraocular lens was implanted to restore her vision. She was discharged the same day after receiving post-operative care and instructions.

With tears of gratitude in her eyes, Maryam said:
