With Your Support, Azmat’s Heart Defect Was Corrected

Azmat Ali's Story

Azmat Ali, an 11-year-old boy from Dera Ghazi Khan, had been experiencing breathlessness, fatigue, palpitations, and chest discomfort since birth. His inability to keep up with other children while playing left him isolated and frustrated. Concerned about his health, his parents consulted a doctor.

After a thorough evaluation and medical tests, the doctor diagnosed Azmat with moderate Secundum Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Right Ventricular Volume Overload (RVVO). The abnormal opening in the upper chambers of his heart caused improper blood flow, putting excessive strain on his heart. The doctor recommended an ASD closure device to address the defect. However, the surgical cost was beyond his family’s reach.

Azmat lived in a rented mud house with his six family members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a daily wage laborer and brought in just PKR 25000 monthly. The family’s financial struggles left them with no hope of affording the life-saving treatment. With hope in their hearts, they turned to Transparent Hands. We registered his case.

On November 7, 2024, Azmat was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Dr. Masood Sadiq performed the ASD closure procedure, which successfully occluded the defect and alleviated the strain on his heart. After receiving post-operative care, Azmat was discharged in stable condition on November 08, 2024.
