You Enabled Abu Huraira to Hear Through Cochlear Implant Surgery

Muhammad Abu Huraira, a 1-year-old boy from Faisalabad, had been surrounded by silence since the day he was born. While other children of his age began to react to their parents’ voices, laugh at playful sounds, and turn towards noisy toys, Abu Huraira remained unaware of the world of sounds. His parents began to worry when they noticed he wasn’t responding to noises or turning his head when called. Deeply concerned, they visited a local hospital where a doctor carried out a comprehensive medical evaluation. The doctor diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), and advised cochlear implant surgery.

While the diagnosis gave them clarity, it also brought with it a financial burden far too great for them to bear. Abu Huraira lives in a small home with his family of four. His father, a police constable, is the sole breadwinner in the family. With a modest salary that just covers daily living expenses like groceries and utility bills, there was no possibility of saving for such an expensive medical procedure. Not willing to give up hope, his parents turned to Transparent Hands for help. Moved by their plea, we quickly registered his case.

With the generous support of donors, Abu Huraira was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Lahore. On April 23, 2025, Dr. Imran Saeed successfully performed the cochlear implant surgery, inserting the internal component. Abu Huraira received proper post-operative care and was discharged in satisfactory condition on April 24, 2025.

Six weeks later, the external device will be installed. Furthermore, he will receive regular speech therapy sessions, which will enable him to speak and distinguish between different sounds and voices.
