Hafsa Tehreem’s ASD Closure Surgery was Successful
Hafsa Tehreem's Story
Hafsa Tehreem, a 10-year-old girl from Rajanpur, had been suffering from shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. She was not growing properly and even mild to moderate physical activity left her gasping for air. Her parents took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed her with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Right Ventricular Volume Overload (RVVO) and recommended ASD closure surgery. For Hafsa’s family, the cost of the surgery was unaffordable.
Hafsa’s parents wished to heal her heart, but their financial constraints prevented them from doing so. Hafsa lived in a small rented house with her five family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, was a teacher and earned just enough to cover basic needs. The financial strain of house rent, utility bills, as well as educational expenses already weighed heavily over them. Hafsa’s life-saving surgery was expensive and they were unable to pay for it. During this challenging time, Hafsa’s parents decided to contact Transparent Hands and asked us for assistance. Moved by their plea, we registered her case.
On 16th September 2024, Hafsa was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. Hafsa received pre-operative care and surgery was scheduled for 18th September 2024. Dr. Faiz Rasool performed her ASD closure surgery to correct Hafsa’s heart defect. After the surgery, Hafsa was hospitalized for five days and received post-operative care and critical monitoring. On 22nd September 2024, Hafsa was discharged in stable condition from the hospital.
Hafsa’s parents said with tears of happiness:
“After years of struggle, it’s unbelievable to see Hafsa in a healthy condition. We had given up hope, but this surgery changed everything. Now, our daughter can spend her life without any discomfort and breathlessness. The happiness we feel is overwhelming and it’s all thanks to your generosity.”
Hafsa is recovering and she is hopeful to live, laugh, and grow like other children. You have given her a life she never thought possible. Her family is immensely grateful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for making a considerable change in her life.
