Muhammad Sudais's Story
Muhammad Sudais, 2 years old, presented with repeated chest infections and failure to grow normally. He was diagnosed with DORV and VSD (both congenital heart defects). His first surgery, PA banding, was done to support a malfunctioning heart. His condition improved and his second surgery, open heart surgery for VSD closure, was planned. This surgery was successfully carried out on 14- 09- 19, at Ittefaq hospital, by Dr. Salman A Shah. He recovered from surgery but later on, he developed cardiac tamponade for which, re-exploration was done. Postoperatively, he developed low cardiac output syndrome and acute renal shutdown. He responded well after resuscitation, intubation, and ventilation. Later on, he progressed to multiorgan failure due to pneumonia and surgery-related wound infection. Despite maximal medical management, he was unable to recover. He expired on 09-10-19.
