Atiqa Amjad's Story

Meet Atiqa Amjad, a 17-year-old girl from Jaranwala, who has spent her entire life battling a discomforting condition. Since childhood, she has been unable to open her mouth properly. Eating, speaking, and even simple jaw movements cause discomfort. Atiqa’s parents took her to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After a detailed evaluation, the doctor diagnosed her with Bilateral TMJ Ankylosis, a condition that causes fusion of the jaw joint and restricts movement. She has also developed a “bird beak” appearance with a retruded jaw and limited chin-to-throat distance. To regain normal jaw function and prevent further complications, the doctor has advised bilateral interpositional arthroplasty. However, the cost of the surgery is out of her family’s reach.

Atiqa’s condition has not only affected her physical health but also her confidence. Without this surgery, Atiqa’s condition will continue to worsen. She may experience severe joint damage, persistent pain, and worsening facial deformity which will significantly affect her quality of life.

Atiqa belongs to a large family of 12 members, with a total household income of PKR 25,000 per month. The financial burden is overwhelming, with PKR 2000 spent on utility bills and PKR 3000 on educational expenses. With a meager monthly income, they barely make ends meet. Given their limited income, affording an expensive surgery is beyond their reach. Atiqa’s family watches helplessly as she experiences discomfort daily. During this time of need, Atiqa’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help.

Her parents said in despair:

“Our daughter has suffered her whole life because of this condition. She cannot eat like others, she struggles to speak, and her discomfort never goes away. As parents, it breaks our hearts to see her in this state, knowing we cannot afford the surgery. Kindly help us during this time of need.”

Atiqa’s future depends on this surgery. With your kindness, she can regain her ability to eat, speak, and smile without pain. Let’s join hands to bring her the relief she deserves!

Atiqa Amjad's Story

Atiqa Amjad, a 17-year-old girl from Jaranwala, was unable to open her mouth properly. Activities like eating, speaking and smiling became increasingly difficult for her. Even normal jaw movements were difficult to perform. She had a bird beak appearance with a retruded jaw and reduced chin-to-throat distance. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After a detailed medical evaluation, the doctor diagnosed Atiqa with Bilateral TMJ Ankylosis. To treat this issue, her doctor advised bilateral interpositional arthroplasty. Unfortunately, the surgical cost was overwhelming for her family.

Atiqa lived in a modest home with his joint family of twelve members. Her monthly household income was just PKR 25,000. This income was insignificant to support a large family. They barely covered their utility bills alongside educational and food expenses. Atiqa had been living with this issue for a long time and her pain was affecting her ability to carry out her daily activities. However, financial constraints became a great obstacle on her path towards recovery. During this difficult time, Atiqa’s family decided to contact Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. We swiftly registered her case.

On March 5, 2025, Atiqa was admitted to CMH Hospital, Lahore. Dr. Asad Aizaz successfully performed her surgery and corrected the defect in her jaw. Her surgery went smoothly and Atiqa received the necessary care and monitoring. On March 6, 2025, Atiqa was discharged in satisfactory condition from the hospital.

Atiqa’s parents said with happiness: “We are overwhelmed with immense pleasure and can’t thank you enough for your kind support. Atiqa can eat and speak properly now. Living without pain has made her feel alive again. We are forever grateful for the joy you have brought into our lives.”

Atiqa’s life has significantly changed after the surgery. She can now live a healthy and fulfilling life. You have enabled Atiqa to spend her life with new hope and confidence. Her family is grateful to you for making this surgery possible.
