When Amina Yousaf was born, she was a feeble baby. Despite her mother’s efforts, Amina failed to gain any weight. Later, Amina’s parents took her to the doctor who prescribed some tests. As per the results, he diagnosed Amina with PDA – Patent Ductus Arteriosus . There is a direct connection between the two main blood vessels in a baby’s heart while it is still in the womb. This connection eventually closes up after birth. If it stays open and is large, it can cause complications.

It is important to correct PDA because it can lead to congestive heart failure and other complications. Therefore, to treat this condition, the doctor has advised Amina to undergo a PDA Device Closure.

Unfortunately, Amina’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of the procedure. Amina’s father works as a manual labourer on daily wages. Despite long hours and hectic work, he hardly manages to earn PKR 20,000 per month. With a family of 10 to feed, he can’t arrange for his daughter’s procedure. When we inquired about his daughter’s health, his eyes were filled with tears. He told us:

“On most days, I stay up all night to see if my daughter is breathing alright. I stare at her hovering belly going up and down and thank the lord. Some days, it gets worse, she turns blue and breathless, and I feel helpless against it.”

After a lot of distress, Amina’s parents have registered her case with Transparent Hands. We wish to see Amina happy and healthy as soon as possible. But, we cannot do that without your help. Therefore, we request you to please donate for Amina’s device occlusion as much as you can.

Amina Yousaf's Story

Amina Yousaf, aged 9 years, a resident of Sheikhupura was suffering from very slow physical growth. On medical consultation, she was diagnosed to have a heart defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). The pediatrician advised device occlusion of PDA for Amina’s treatment. For this purpose, she was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital and her device occlusion was performed by Dr. Najam Hyder on 2.09.2021. In this surgery, Amina’s heart defect was closed. Her hospital stay was of three days, and she was discharged in a stable condition. Amina Yousaf has recovered quickly post-surgery.
