Nadeem Ahmed's Story

Nadeem Ahmed, a 51-year-old diabetic patient from Karachi, finds himself trapped in a cycle of despair. It all began with a seemingly innocent inflammation on his foot, prompting his concerned wife to seek medical assistance. The doctor provided symptomatic relief, but as days turned into weeks, the inflammation only worsened. Filled with worry, Nadeem returned to the doctor for further examination.

The devastating diagnosis revealed that Nadeem’s diabetic foot had progressed to gangrene, leading to the unfortunate amputation of his left leg above the knee one year ago. Now, in his journey towards recovery, the doctor advised an above-knee prosthesis, an artificial limb that would restore his mobility and offer a chance at regaining independence.

Nadeem, the sole earner in his family, works as a daily wager in a small shop, earning a meager monthly income of just PKR 30,000. He resides with his wife and five dependent children in a rented house in Karachi. The weight of financial responsibilities burdens Nadeem, as he must allocate PKR 14,000 for house rent, PKR 1,500 for utility bills, and PKR 3,000 for school fees, and PKR 300,000 towards loan repayment. In the face of this overwhelming financial crisis, Nadeem cannot afford to pay for an artificial leg to get back on his feet.

Nadeem Ahmed said in despair:

“Facing this overwhelming health crisis, losing my leg, has plunged me into a state of helplessness. Yet, my deepest desire is to reclaim my independence and sustain my cherished family. The crushing financial strain of medical bills looms large over us, casting a shadow of doubt on our ability to escape this relentless cycle of adversity.”

Transparent Hands has identified Nadeem’s plight. Understanding the urgency of his situation, we registered his case. The goal is to secure the necessary funds for Nadeem’s above-knee prosthesis, enabling him to reclaim his mobility and embark on a journey towards a brighter future.
