Three years ago, Rehana Bibi suffered from a terrible roadside accident in which she sustained severe trauma to her left leg. In a state of panic and worry, Rehana’s husband took her to a public hospital where her leg had to be amputated from above-knee level. The doctors later on advised Rehana to get a prosthetic leg installed as soon as possible. 

After the wound healed, Rehana Bibi circled here and there in search of a prosthetic leg. But due to the COVID 19 pandemic, all of the public healthcare’s focus is on the affected patients. Therefore, patients like Rehana Bibi suffer. Unfortunately, Rehana Bibi cannot afford the hefty cost of a prosthetic leg at a private hospital. Rehana Bibi hails from an underprivileged background. Her husband is the sole earner of the family. He works as a cleric in the local mosque. Despite odd hours and hard work, he hardly manages to earn PKR 6000 per month. With a family of six to take care of, Rehana’s husband is in no position to arrange for Rehana’s prosthetic leg. He told us:

“Three years ago, we all witnessed the worst day of our life. Everything happened in a mere span of moments. It changed our lives forever, and now we have to live with the trauma for the rest of our lives.”
