Asia Idrees's Story

Asia Idrees is a 38-year-old housewife from Lahore, who suffers from a condition called uterine prolapse. Before we discuss this condition and its treatment, it is imperative to understand the background story of Asia’s family. Asia and her husband have been married for almost twelve years and have no children to take care of. Her husband earns a meagre 12,000 PKR/month from his shop keeper duties. The family lives in a five-Marla house, and that is all that they have got. In circumstances like these, uterine prolapse hitting Asia has rattled the family even further.

What happens in uterine prolapse? Well, the condition occurs when the ligaments and muscles holding the frame of the pelvic floor are maxed out i.e. stretched to their fullest. This means the support for the uterus that stems from the pelvic floor is no longer there. This leads to a condition where the uterus can slip down or protrude out of the vagina, hence the condition is called uterine prolapse. Is there any treatment on offer that can reverse what we have just told you? Fortunately, there is one, called sacrohysteropexy. A synthetic mesh is used in this surgical procedure to correct the uterine prolapse. The procedure is one of effective treatment options, but one that can cost the patient a fortune.

And this is what has been eating Asia all this time. For the last year, she has been popping pills to kill the pain that has become a permanent part of her life. But now, things have reached a point where the patient must undergo sacrohysteropexy.

“I know it is unavoidable now. Unavoidable if I want to live a painless life in the future, that is. We don’t have any valuable assets that we can sell to cover the expenses of sacrohysteropexy, all that we have is a place to sleep at night. How am I going to afford my surgery is a question that I have left for Transparent Hands to answer”?

Yes, you read it right. We have decided to help Asia Idrees in having her sacrohysteropexy. But it is going to be an impossible feat to achieve without your help. Which is why we urge you to donate for Asia NOW!

Asia Idrees's Story

Asia Idrees, 38 years old, had a lump protruding out of her genital tract. On medical consultation, this condition was identified as uterine (UV) prolapse. Her gynaecologist advised fixation surgery for her prolapsed uterus. For this purpose, Asia was admitted in Akram Medical Complex and her laparotomy was performed by Dr. Asia Nasir on 06.01.2021. She was found to have multiple fibroids in her uterus which were the cause of her prolapse. Her fibroids were removed (myomectomy). She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. After taking ample bed rest, Asia has now recovered from her surgery and performs her household chores without any problem.
