Muhammad Qasim Jamil's Story

“He is always in pain and yet, has to work from day to night. Financial constraints allow him no rest. If I were young, I could have worked instead but I can’t. I just want my son to be free from this pain.” – Qasim’s Father.

Muhammad Qasim Jamil, 26 years old, has had swelling and pain in his groin for almost five years. In the last two years, his symptoms got much worse. The doctors diagnosed a right inguinal hernia and advised a hernioplasty- a surgical procedure to repair the hernia. All medications taken so far have only afforded him temporary relief.

Qasim has four siblings, all of whom are married. Qasim, his wife, his parents, his siblings and their families all live in a joint family system in a small house owned by his parents. He himself is a daily wager at an Electric shop and earns around 10,000 PKR a month. His brothers work as welders but their income is unreliable. Qasim’s salary is spent toward supporting his family members so any medical expenses cannot be handled by the family.
