Shamim Akhtar's Story

Shamim Akhtar, aged 56 years, slipped and had an accident around 1.5 years ago. In this unfortunate incident, her left femur sustained a fracture. She was rushed to a hospital where she underwent an operation for femur neck fixation. The costs of this operation were well beyond her means but a generous neighbor in her village sponsored her.

The fixation made use of an implant that, for quite a while, presented no problems. Recently, however, Shamim has started feeling pain in her left hip and leg. In the past few months, the intensity of this pain has grown unbearable and doctors have advised her to have her implant removed. This would require another surgery that Shamim requires urgent help with. The only breadwinner in her family is her husband, who works at a snooker club and earns 15,000-16,000 PKR/month. Her two sons have been through college but have been unable to secure a job.

Shamim’s financial circumstances do not allow her to seek treatment on her own.

Shamim Akhtar, 56 years old, was presenting with a history of left femur neck fixation by D.H.S. She was experiencing unbearable pain after that surgery & was advised to have the implant removed by an orthopedic surgeon. Her procedure was performed in Abid Hospital, Mian Channu, on 04-06-2020, by Dr. Muhammad Aqeel Arshad. Her procedure was successful. She was advised to follow some precautions for a full recovery & was discharged in a satisfactory condition after 3 days of hospital stay.
